Administrative Team

Donell Morgan, Executive Director
Donell Morgan’s role as Executive Director at Elevate Youth culminates his life’s experiences. He grew up in the inner city, began his basketball career in high school which continued through college. He played basketball around the world. After retiring from basketball, Donell worked with youth at Echo Glen Children’s Center, a detention home. For 10 years, he coached basketball at Umpqua Community College, which kick-started his mentorship of young African American men. He was the first African American coach in Douglas County. Donell worked to open two Boys & Girls clubs in his hometown of Tacoma. Donell recently earned his MBA at Willamette University and continues to build life-changing relationships. He’s coached Parkrose High School’s Varsity basketball team for the last 7 years. His goal is to give back to his communities all that was given to him and more.

Kesha Roper, Chief of Staff
A Portland native and proud alumni of Benson High School, Kesha holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Development from Warner Pacific University. With 25 years of experience in working with youth and family serving organizations, Kesha has empowered the lives of countless youth. She’s been instrumental in mentoring, managing, and developing staff to effectively serve and elevate youth. As Chief of Staff, Kesha brings strong leadership and relationship-building skills and is wholeheartedly passionate about uplifting the lives of everyone she encounters.

Tony Ande, Chief Operating Officer
With over 40 years of experience, Tony Ande has held top roles like CEO, Executive Director, COO and CFO. He earned degrees from the University of Illinois, National University, the University of San Diego, and is a Certified Public Accountant. Known for expertise in accounting, financial analysis, leadership, and management, Tony is a true numbers guru. Beyond the office, he has volunteered for over 35 years with various non-profits. His favorite quote is from Harry S. Truman, “It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you do not care who gets the credit.”

Angela Taylor, Director of Finance
Born and raised in Portland, Angela was an at-risk youth who skipped school, got bad grades, and eventually dropped out of high school to become a teen parent. Years later, she earned a GED at PCC, and then graduated from the Portland State University School of Business Administration for Accounting. Her personal experiences of accomplishment and passion for lifting others, especially youth, have led to a decade of community service.

Mikayla Reed, Accounting Assistant
Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Mikayla is currently working on her Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting through Western Governors University. She is excited to complete her education while working for a non-profit with an incredible mission. Mikayla is also a kickboxing instructor where she helps empower and guide women through their workouts. Her favorite quote by Henry Ford is, “Whether you say you can or you can not- you are right.”

Kristen Robertson Rogers, Director of Development & Communications
A native Oregonian, Kristen attended the University of Oregon and Mills College in Oakland, California. With a strong writing background, she oversees Elevate Youth's fundraising and communications efforts. Kristen has been deeply committed to Elevate Youth’s work toward Educational Equity since 2017, when she started as a volunteer grant writer.

KJ Mack, Training & Development Manager
KJ was born and raised in South Carolina, where he experienced the transformative power of intentional relationships during his time in youth ministry. KJ spent multiple years working with middle, high school, and college students as a ministry leader and youth pastor. He has a deep desire to help others grow and succeed, and loves designing systems and processes that help people and communities flourish. KJ earned a BA in Public Health from the University of South Carolina and a MA in Christian Studies from Southeastern.

Claire Olmstead, Grants and Data Specialist
Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Claire first earned an associate’s degree at Mt. Hood Community College before going on to graduate summa cum laude from Portland State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Arts & Letters. Claire is a multi-disciplinary artist, poet, and author. Claire is pleased to be able to bring both technical and creative skills to the table for the Elevate Youth team.

Dequesha Smith, Human Resources Generalist
Born and raised in Vancouver, WA., Dequesha comes from a large, loving family with five sisters. From an early age, she knew her career would involve helping people. With over five years in the corporate sector, Dequesha made a career shift to work for a non-profit organization. Growing up surrounded by children, she developed a passion for empowering and nurturing young minds which inspires her professional journey.

Jennifer Jones, District Manager
Jennifer is a seasoned leader with over 25 years of experience in the nonprofit, ministry, and education sectors. Known for her gift of connecting people to purpose, she’s passionate about helping youth discover their potential through meaningful opportunities and relationships.

Michelle Braxton, District Manager
P. Michelle Braxton is a committed change-maker, Portland native, and long-time Parkrose resident. She has over 20 years of experience in child advocacy as a Restorative Justice Coordinator, foster care provider, Behavior Specialist, and SUN School program manager.

Luz Ruiz Ruiz, District Manager
Luz Ruiz Ruiz is a former Elevate student and Parkrose High School graduate. This experience allows Luz to understand district partner perspectives and Elevate programming from the inside out. She joined Elevate in 2020 as a full-time Teacher/Mentor, and served as lead mentor in 2023-24 before her promotion to district manager.

Carlton Slater, District Manager
Carlton Slater’s passion for empowering youth and individuals with disabilities for over 25 years has shaped a lifelong commitment to service. A quote he loves: “My only purpose is to swim the seas, find the truth and spread it around. Give it to the children that know how to listen, so they can pass it after I drown.”
Life Experience & Wisdom Matter:
At the core of Elevate’s impact is the on-the-ground support provided by our full-time Teacher-Mentors. Each brings personal life experiences relatable to the emotional, educational, and cultural realities of our students. They work one-on-one with youth and behind the scenes—helping each kid rise up towards their fullest potential. We intentionally hire Teacher-Mentors and staff who:
- Were once Elevate students themselves;
- Come from or have lived in the communities they now serve;
- Have had mentors in their own lives and understand the dedication it requires;
- Bring years of experience working with youth and communities in social service or educational settings.
Teacher/Mentors

Jamarsae Brown, Parkrose High School Teacher/Mentor
Jamarsae Brown is a Portland native and Reynolds High School graduate. His experience with mentorship is deeply rooted in the sport of basketball. After years of playing at a high level, he now serves as an assistant varsity basketball coach at Parkrose High School. Jamarsae loves seeing the look on kids' faces when they succeed!

Adofo Lawrence, Menlo Park Elementary Teacher/Mentor
Adofo has nearly 20 years in youth development. His passion for working with youth began in high school when he volunteered as a student leader with Outdoor School. Adofo attended Jefferson, Marshall, and Vocational Village High Schools before attending Portland Community College.

Dominique Lincoln, Fir Ridge High School Lead Teacher/Mentor
Dominique Lincoln, Fir Ridge High School Lead Teacher/Mentor Dominique was born in Portland. He graduated from Evergreen High School in Vancouver, where he was a 2-sport athlete as well as on the Dean's list. He earned a Criminal Justice degree in college. Dominique has been passionate about youth development for over 10 years, working as a coach, a teacher, and a mentor in a number of programs.

Jordan Griffin, Ron Russell Middle School Teacher/Mentor
Jordan attended Ron Russell Middle School and David Douglas High School. Jordan served as an advocate for survivors of domestic violence at a local nonprofit before accepting roles as an Instructional Assistant, and then a Restorative Room Monitor at Ron Russell. He also coaches 7th grade boys basketball.

Serena Smith, Parkrose High School Teacher/Mentor
Serena’s passion for helping youth stems from her own experiences of overcoming educational system challenges. She went to Union High in Camas, WA., then Cal Poly Humboldt University. There, she started a Black Student Athlete Union and worked in the Umoja Center for Pan-African Student Excellence. She graduated in May 2023 with a Kinesiology degree.

Jessica Ruiz Rodriguez, Ron Russell Middle School Teacher/Mentor
Jessica was raised in Mexico and immigrated to the U.S in 2003. She got married and had children at a young age. Those experiences gave valuable life lessons about choice and informed how she mentors teens. Jessica's passion for helping students came from 10 years of volunteering in her own children's schools. Jessica plans to study Mental Health and Substance Abuse Counseling for Youth.

Kevin Jones, Parkrose Elementary School Teacher/Mentor
Portland born and raised, Kevin graduated from Wilson High School. He found his true passion while working in a care home for young juveniles. This led to roles supporting youth, including as an educational assistant at Arata Creek, a behavioral school. Creating joyful spaces where young minds can thrive is Kevin's mission.

Jaelen Blake, Ron Russell Middle School Lead Teacher/Mentor
Jaelen is a former Elevate Youth student and Parkrose High School graduate. He’s an avid gamer with a passion for helping youth and the community he grew up in. He joined Elevate as a student in 2014, and became a staff member in 2020. Jaelen is now the full-time lead mentor at Ron Russell Middle School.

Chandra Roseby, Russell Elementary Lead Teacher/Mentor
Chandra’s lived in Parkrose for over 20 years. As an Educational Assistant at Russell Elementary for a decade, she served youth in Special Education as well as kids with autism. She built strong relationships with students and families from the community which now serve her Teacher/Mentor role at Russell.

Darius Strickland, Teacher/Mentor
Darius has a decade of experience in education—from school security, to classroom teacher, to Dean of Students. Darius is passionate about building positive learning environments. Currently he’s pursuing his education license at Warner Pacific University, and is committed to growing as an educator and leader.

Anthony Green, Parkrose High School Lead Teacher/Mentor
Anthony was raised in Portland. Growing up without a father and having little-to-no exposure to male role models fuel his passion. Youth advocacy includes volunteering for Nike's Made to Play program, and as a Big Brother mentor. Anthony wants to inspire kids by teaching skills for self-advocacy and leadership.

Carliss Holland-Smith, Margaret Scott Elementary Teacher/Mentor
Carliss was Portland born and raised. With over 20 years working for youth organizations, she’s served as a Professional Mentor, Youth Sports Coach, Sun School Instructor, and Preschool Assistant Teacher. Carliss is deeply passionate about giving back to her community and empowering youth to overcome obstacles.

Jamaal Goodlow Jr., Prescott Elementary Teacher/Mentor
Jamaal is a graduate of Grant High School. Jamaal brings strong communication skills and a people-first mindset to everything he does. He volunteered for a local food drive for two years following the COVID-19 pandemic. The quote he lives by: “There is nothing worse than wasted potential.”

Braxton Knight, Lincoln Park Elementary Teacher/Mentor
Braxton has worked in youth development his entire career. These include Boys and Girls Club, working with youth with disabilities in a group home, then as a Case Manager helping foster kids find housing and steady jobs. Braxton’s committed to life-long learning around mental and physical self-care.

Brenda Norell, Parkrose Middle School Teacher/Mentor
Brenda’s a Franklin High School graduate and currently pursuing a B.A. in English. She’s bilingual in Spanish and English. She’s a dedicated volunteer at Montavilla Church. Her favorite quote’s by Joseph Addison: “What sculpture is to a block of marble, education is to the soul.”

A'mere Ledbetter, Alice Ott Middle School Teacher/Mentor
A’mere Ledbetter is a dedicated childcare professional with nearly a decade of experience. She’s a graduate of David Douglas High School and 6A cheer state champion. She’s pursuing a degree in Psychology and Early Childhood Education, and her dream is to open a preschool that gives kids the strong start they deserve.

Ray Ray Crain, Floyd Light Middle School Teacher/Mentor
Ray’s a Portland native and Jefferson High School alum. He’s a former collegiate athlete with a Ph.D. in Business from the University of Oregon. Ray is dedicated to helping kids overcome limitations to lifelong confidence and vision. He believes in the power of education, resilience, and representation to transform lives.

DeMiya Collins, Floyd Light Middle School Teacher/Mentor
DeMiya grew up in SE Portland and graduated from David Douglas High School, where his passion for working with youth first began. He’s dedicated himself to mentoring, supporting, and uplifting young people, driven by a deep belief in their potential and resilience. As a Teacher/Mentor, DeMiya helps young people feel seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.

With over seven years of education experience, De'Corey has developed strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
